The Lord creates hot springs, mud pots, geysers, and fumaroles by heating water deep within the earth.

He allows the scalding fluid to rise to the surface.

There it can form pools of boiling water (hot springs), mix with clay to make bubbling mud pots, build up pressure and erupt into magnificent geysers, or boil away just below the surface producing steam vents (fumaroles) that hiss from the ground.
