"Earth"

This week, many people of our planet will be observing "Earth Day" (April 22). Concurrent with this celebration of Earth is the much-anticipated release of the Disney film of the same name, "Earth."

I recommend that you see "Earth" at the theater. And I implore you to ask yourself one simple question while you are enjoying the truly breath-taking scenery and all the creatures featured in the movie... "Who created all these?"

The Prince of Teachers—Jesus Christ—uses a most-powerful instructional tool in His most famous sermon: "Look at the birds of the air..." (Matthew 6:26); "see how the lilies of the field grow..." Matthew 6:28). In His preaching, Jesus is reemphasizing a divine fiat from of old: "Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these?" (Isaiah 40:26). God commands us to intentionally and intently study His creation! In so doing, we have the privilege of seeing the character of our Creator reflected in all He has made.

Yet, many today ignore this command. Worse, most of the world has fallen into the terrible error of worshiping Earth and the creatures of Earth rather than the Maker of Earth—Jesus Christ.

Watch this film, but please know that it is the One True God that the polar bears, the African elephants, and the humpback whales are proclaiming. They are celebrating Him, not Earth!

"When man was made perfect, and placed in a perfect world, where all things were in perfect order, the whole creation was then man's book, in which he was to read the nature and will of his great Creator. Every creature had the name of God so legibly engraven on it, that man might run and read it. He could not open his eyes, but he might see some image of God..." This excerpt is from "The Reformed Pastor" 1656 by Pastor Richard Baxter. To read the entire quote, please see the April 8, 2009 entry.
