The Danger of Unbelief

Jesus said of our time, "Because of the increase of wickedness [lawlessness], the love of most will grow cold" (Matthew 24:12). Some might conclude that Christ is primarily referring to our relationships with one another. Certainly, this is in view. But I firmly believe that the "love" Jesus is most concerned with here is our adoration of His Father and our obedience to Himself as the King of kings.

It is natural to become distracted, even despondent, when we see wickedness all around us (2 Peter 2:7-8), but we must not let this diminish our affection for our Creator and our Redeemer.

Are you worn out and discouraged? Then turn your weary gaze back upon Jesus (Hebrews 12:2) and He will renew your strength. Cry out to Christ and meditate on His Word. His Spirit is infinitely able to lift your head so that you might see His glory shining throughout Creation—your Faithful One is directing you to this end (Isaiah 40:26). Delve deeply into His Word and allow it to fill your heart with a sweet knowledge of your Creator (Ecclesiastes 12:1). If you do, the world around you will never look the same! Nature vividly displays God's character (Romans 1:20), and the glory of Christ proclaimed in it will, once again, become a balm for your troubled and tired soul. Please do not allow the wickedness of this world to move you to forsake your First Love, who is Jesus, our Hope of Glory (Revelation 2:1-7; Colossians 1:27).
